A clock that gets started runs until something stops it. Most of the time that is exactly what you want, but two things go wrong often enough to be worth guarding against, and both are off by default so nothing about your recorded hours changes until you ask for it.
All three live in Settings → Features.
Only clock onto today's jobs
Normally a job clock can be started on any job that is on the system, including one that is days away. That is deliberate, plenty of firms open tomorrow's job last thing at night.
The cost of it: someone puts the crew on Thursday's job on a Monday afternoon, and because nobody stops it, the clock runs. We have seen one run sixteen hours before anyone noticed, and it only stopped because the operative clocked onto a different job two mornings later.
Switch this on and a job clock can only be started on a job dated today. The crew get a plain message saying so, and the fix is to move the job to today, which is the office's call, as it should be.
Working with no signal is unaffected. A tap made in a dead spot is judged by when it was tapped, not when the phone finally syncs. Someone who clocked on at 8am in a valley and got coverage back at 4pm is not refused.
Close a job clock left running after …
Choose 10, 12, 16 or 24 hours, or leave it on Never, which is how it worked before.
A clock still running after that long is closed at the limit, and you get a notification naming the person and how long it had run. It is the same idea as the forgotten end-of-day clock-out that already gets tidied up overnight.
Two things worth knowing:
- The time written on the clock is the limit itself, not the moment we noticed. The sweep's own timing never becomes somebody's hours.
- It counts hours since the clock started, not "close everything at midnight". That matters if you grit or work nights, an 18:00 to 06:00 run is a normal shift, and a midnight sweep would cut every one of them in half.
The closed time is still a guess, so check it the morning you are told rather than at the end of the month.
Anyone can clock in from anywhere
If you have set a yard geofence (Settings → Business), crew have to be at the yard to clock in. You can already exempt one person on their staff record, an owner who is abroad, an office manager who never goes to the yard, a subcontractor starting from home.
This switch is the same exemption for everybody, so you do not have to tick forty people one at a time.
It is not the same as clearing the geofence radius:
- The yard pin and radius stay, so every clock-in still records how far from the yard it was taken.
- Clocking out away from the yard is untouched, it still needs the reason and still tells you, exactly as before.
