With Daily vehicle custody on (Settings → Features), the end-of-day yard wizard asks each crew for their van's closing mileage and whether they're taking one home; the morning briefing takes the opening reading back before the day's vehicle pick.
You get an unbroken record of who had which van and every overnight bracket — and if a van moves significantly overnight without explanation, the office is asked about it rather than nobody noticing. Left off, the lighter weekend-only checks apply.
Pre-use checks. Turn on Pre-use vehicle checks (Settings → Features) and a van or trailer that hasn't been checked today shows Check & take in the morning list instead of Take. It's a two-minute walkaround — lights, tyres, brakes, coupling and breakaway on a trailer, load secure. Pass it and the vehicle is yours for the day; mark a safety item Not OK and it stays in the yard, an urgent fault goes to the office and the crew are told to pick another. End-of-day and weekly checks carry on as before.
Crews with their own vehicles. By default vehicles are a shared pool — crews take what they need that morning. Turn on Crews have their own vehicles and each crew gets a Usual vehicle (Team → Crews) that's tagged and shown first on their morning list, and vans and trailers can be put on rounds like any other kit. Custody, mileage and towing work the same either way.
Where a machine is. A machine's status is now just In service or Off the road. Whether it's at the yard or out with a crew is worked out from the morning check-out, so you'll never see "at yard" and "out" at the same time.
